Gruesome content...beautiful prose!

Creepy... *shudders*
Here are my questions:
Victor Standish MUST die...WHY?
Who is Victor Standish?
Why did his mother abandon him at such a tender age? Why is she so MEAN??
How did he survive this nightmare?
What's the deal with Victor and the ghoulish Alice Wentworth? Can she be trusted?
I must confess that I'm not really into zombies...but the writing voice is unique...refreshing...
It's not often that you encounter prose like this: "I stiffened as a swirling sea of her emptiness, her loneliness, her joy at being in touch with another hurt spirit swept me up. And I drew her into me, into my memories of burnt out ends of smoky days laced with pain and violence, of the withered leaves of others' masquerades, of the tiny thousand misunderstandings and clumsy gropings of my heart to the life-hardened hearts of others." Beautiful!

Another entertaining read can be found in Roland Yeomans' story, Victor Standish Must Die. Roland tells the story of Victor's past, before he was found by Captain Sam McCord and made a home at Meiloris.
Victor Standish is left abandoned by Mother, to fight against Zombies, a tentacled space monster with razor sharp teeth, and many more creatures in various cities across seven years until he finds himself in New Orleans, where he comes face to face with a ghoul, who changes his life.
This unusual paranormal tale, written in Roland Yeomans' unique style, brings readers an unusually, entertaining read as Victor Standish's life is played out and the mystery of his past is revealed.

Springtime for Zombies!

Victor's mom is one bad mamma jamma, but she seems to have a soft spot left for her boy. I have a feeling, though, that he's going to be just fine without her. Case in point: Victor goes Walking Dead style on a horde of shamblers (zombies) that don't stand a chance against him and his newfound cohorts -- and one in particular, Leroy, may be more trouble than he's worth...
