"Mom always told me there are two kinds of love in this world: the steady breeze and the hurricane. Emerson Ray was my hurricane..."

Juliet McKenzie was an innocent eighteen-year old when she spent the summer in Beachwood Bay--and fell head over heels in love with Emerson. Complicated, intense Emerson, the local bad boy. His blue eyes hid dark secrets, and just one touch could set Juliet ablaze. Their love was demanding and all-consuming, but when summer ended, tragedy tore them apart. Juliet swore she'd never go back, and she's kept that promise... Until now.

Four years later, Juliet's done her best to rebuild the wreckage of her shattered life. She's got a great boyfriend, and a steady job planned after she graduates. Returning to Beachwood to pack up her family's beach house to prepare it for sale, Juliet is determined that nothing will stand in the way of her future. But one look from Emerson, and all her old desire comes flooding back. He let her go once, but this time, he's not giving up without a fight. And Emerson fights dirty.

A heartbreaking history. An unstoppable passion. Torn between her past and future, Juliet struggles to separate love from desire. But will they find a way to overcome their tragic secrets--together? And after so much damage has been done, can a love remain unbroken?

Excellent!!!

Wow!! I read this ARC by request of the author without much knowledge of the plot and thank goodness she asked me to. I would have hated to miss out on such a great romance story. Emerson and Juliet meet the summer after she graduates from high school. What Juliet thinks will be a boring summer away from her friends ends up being a summer of love, anger, sadness and regret.

Now 4 years later, Juliet thinks she is finally over losing two people she loved dearly that summer. She feels like her life is back on track and her future is all planned out until she has to go back to Cedar Cove to clean out their old vacation home. Just being back in that town brings back so many memories. But then seeing Emerson for the first time since she left, makes her question everything she thought was perfect in her life. And boy oh boy does he make quite a comeback into her life!! The man he is now, is nothing like the guy she remembers from 4 years ago ;)

This is a story about that first real love being your true love. A love that you can never forget, even if you pretend to move on.

"You're mine." He growls, his breath hot against my face. My legs give way, and he holds me up gripping my jaw so I have no choice but to stare up into his eyes, To lose myself in them. "You're mine," he says again fiercely. "Not his, not anyone else's. You can try and pretend you don't feel it, but you do. You'll always be mine."

Who would be able to say no to that?!?! No one...exactly! But, can they work through their past experiences and make it work??

I loved both Emerson and Juliet's characters. Juliet was strong!! She struggled but even with all she had been through and all the secrets she was keeping, she stayed strong and did what she felt was right for the people around her. I loved that there wasn't that bouncing back and forth with her. She knew what was in her heart and she went with it even if it tore her apart at times. My heart broke for her as she struggled to figure out what to do.

And then we have Emerson. I LOVE that name!! He was a little more complicated than Juliet but he thought he was doing the right thing. He confused me at times but I was POSITIVE that he had a good heart. I knew his love for Juliet was overwhelming and I was anxiously reading my butt off to get to the part that I knew had to be coming.

I can honestly say that there was nothing about this story that bothered me :) I enjoyed every minute of it and had a hard time putting it down. It has the perfect mix of angst, sadness, romance and even some steamy scenes. Loved those steamy scenes ;) I am so thankful to Melody for sharing this story with me and I HIGHLY recommend it!! Seriously...go buy it people!!

So very disappointed

I was so looking forward to reading this book. I've heard such great things - and the summary sounded amazing. Second-chance stories are one of my favorite types of romances. I really wasn't even nervous at all to read Unbroken, despite it being New Adult. (I have extreme love and hatred for the genre; it's very touch and go.) But. UGH! I just really didn't like very much at all about this book.

First of all, there needs to be more backstory, more memories of Juliet and Emerson's past. I only remember there being two scenes Juliet remembers that didn't involve sex. The first is located toward the beginning of the book, about the first interaction she had with Emerson. I have no idea how they went from point A to point B; it's just the first few minutes of their introduction. The second is how they broke up. Did you catch that about the NOT involving sex? Yeah. Because that is basically what this whole book is about. It's not that there is sex on nearly every page, but there sure are PLENTY of pages with Juliet thinking about sex with Emerson. My God. Where was this amazing love story? Basically, Juliet gets into town, runs into Emerson the first night, and is almost immediately weak in the knees, practically vibrating with want for him. No flashes of sweet romance and heartbreak mixed in with the heated connection of lust and longing - you know, the kind of memories that come from "hurricane" style romances. Nope.

I seriously think the woman might need to have her hormone levels checked. She is worse than a teenager! Bottom line: story needs much more development. I'm fairly certain you could wrap up all the dialogue the two of them share in about 5 pages (meaningful dialogue would take up half of that, maybe).

Great story!

I'm such as sucker for rekindled romances and NA books that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to review this book. It doesn't help that the cover was so pretty and eye-catching either. Even though I just got this a couple of days ago and my TBR pile is sky-high, I just had to sneak it in my reading pile. I was hooked from the very beginning and found it hard to put it down when I should be other things like working. (ugh!)

4 years after the death of her mother, Jules goes back to Cedar Cove to pack up their family's beach house that he dad is selling. Since her dad or sister don't care about saving any of her mother's stuff, Jules takes it upon herself to do the task. Or so she says. She tries to convince herself that going back has nothing to do with Emerson, her ex. 4 years ago Juliet and Emerson fell head over heels in love. The kind of passionate, all consuming love. Jules and Emerson even had plans for a future together. Until the day Emerson breaks her heart. Her mother's death and Emerson's betrayal is too much for Juliet to take so she leaves and tries her best to move on from Emerson. It takes her a while but she ends up meeting and starts a relationship with Daniel (her current boyfriend). But going back to Cedar Point is messing with Juliet's head and emotions. From her first encounter with Emerson, old feelings start to resurface and she realizes that although Daniel may seem like the perfect guy, her heart has always belonged to Emerson. Juliet and Emerson start falling back into their intense relationship. Juliet was a very likeable character. She has a really messed up family and she's been living in a lie most of her life. Once she made up her mind about what she wants, she isn't afraid to go after it and I really loved that about her. Although Emerson came off as a jerk sometimes, I totally saw through him and understood that he said some of the things he did because he was hurt and trying to protect himself and Jules. I loved the chemistry between these two, it was intense and holy hell was it hot! That backroom bar scene will be in my favorites :)

For those of you who don't like love triangles or books about cheating, this book isn't about any of those things. The situation was handled very well. I loved that we got to hear the story from the present tense, but we also got flashback of their relationship 4 years ago and how things went bad. It was very easy to get sucked in the story and my only complaint would be that I wish it were a little bit longer. Not that the story needed more, I just really enjoyed it and would have liked to read more about these two. I also wish we would have gotten Emerson's POV, but I hope for the guy's POV in every book so that's kind of a moot point. I noticed this is part of a series and I am insanely curious to know if the next book will also be about them or someone else. Maybe Juliet's best friend, Daniel, Emerson's little sister, Garrett the bartender? Heck, I kind of want to know Juliet's sisters story. She was such a mean girl which means she might have a good story to tell. Unbroken was a sweet, emotional and heartwarming story about picking up the pieces and finding your way back home. A great addition to both the contemporary and NA genres. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

4 out of 5 stars!

Some of my favorite non-spoiler quotes from Unbroken:
- "I always want you, Jules. Even when I hated you, even when I wished I'd never see your face again, I still lost my mind thinking all the things I'd do to you, if you came back." His voice breaks. When he speaks again, it's with a rough, ragged tone, like he's forcing the words out.
"I'll always want you, Juliet."

- "You're mine," he says again fiercely. "Not his, not anyone else's. You can try and pretend you don't feel it, but you do. You'll always be mine."

- "Looking back, I wonder if mom saw it in my eyes: the storm clouds gathering, the dry crackle of electricity in the air. But it was already too late. No warning sirens were going to save me. I guess you never really know the danger, not until you're the one left, huddled on the ground, surrounded by the pieces of your broken heart."

-"This is my favorite place in the world," Emerson's voice is low, thick with desire. "Right here. In you."
